His eleventh album, Father of Asahd, was released in 2019 it peaked at number two, and the song " Higher" won Best Rap/Sung Performance at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, Khaled's first Grammy award win. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, and was also certified platinum. He released his tenth studio album, Grateful, in 2017, which contained the singles " I'm the One" and " Wild Thoughts", which charted at number one and number two on the Billboard Hot 100, respectively. This foresaw the release of his ninth studio album Major Key (2016), which gained critical and commercial success it debuted at number one the Billboard 200, was certified gold, and received a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album. In 20, Khaled gained worldwide attention as a media personality, due to his activity on social media.
His sixth and seventh albums, Kiss the Ring (2012) and Suffering from Success (2013), charted in the top ten on the Billboard 200, and his eighth studio album, I Changed a Lot (2015), peaked at number 12. His fifth studio album We the Best Forever (2011) also saw similar commercial success, and helped bring Khaled to international prominence, as it featured the song " I'm on One", which was his first top ten hit. Both albums charted in the top ten on the US Billboard 200, with the latter containing the single " All I Do Is Win", which was eventually certified triple platinum. His subsequent two releases - We Global (2008) and Victory (2010) - were released after he founded the record label We the Best Music Group. He followed it with We the Best (2007), which contained the top 20 single " I'm So Hood". the Album in 2006, which earned gold certification. After gaining production credits on the group's material, Khaled released his debut studio album Listennn. Khaled first gained prominence as a radio host in the 1990s on the radio station 99 Jamz, and translated his popularity by working with Terror Squad as a DJ for their live performances. But as the chanting Fetty Wap joint "Damn Chainz" proves, there isn't much French can do better than his trapping Jersey counterpart. On "Concentration", he takes a minor piano riff (courtesy of the Mekanics and MIXX) and makes one of his signature repetitive, bass-heavy jams.
The Lil Durk-featuring "See Me" is French's strongest use of Auto-Tune on the tape over a trudging rhythm, sax, and piano chords. Unsurprisingly, French delivers his best performances on the French Montana songs, where he gets to operate in his own space without Fetty creeping over his shoulder. It's weird that French Montana, who is one of the more interesting characters in hip-hop, often writes such simple and boring raps, and on Coke Zoo,standing next to Fetty, he somehow seems even duller. On "Gangsta Way", a repurposed Chris Brown song with a French verse, he takes an otherwise solid record and stifles its momentum. "Angel" once again showcases the stunning skill set of the trap balladeer ("And I make all this guap just to show you it's ours") before French Montana sucks out all of the energy with lifeless vocals and a mood-breaking verse. Many of the ideas and sounds on Coke Zoo feel like Fetty Wap b-sides and leftovers: "Sometimes" is a leaked Fetty Wap song from July ("I Wonder") with a French verse tagged on. French hitches a ride on the Fetty bandwagon for many of his best contributions, but his approach to writing is far more elementary (On "Freaky": "I'ma hit it like a dog/ Then I'ma pass it to my dog"), and it's Fetty's knack for melody that makes songs like "Power" so appealing. It can be jarring going from Fetty's voice, which is robust and full, to French's, which is flat and without depth. Coke Zoo disproves any notion that Auto-Tune is the great equalizer.
